With 90% of its two million packages shipped during the holiday season, Figi’s looks a lot like Santa’s Workshop these days. The company welcomed nearly 30 UW-Stevens Point School of Business & Economics students to see the operation at its headquarters and distribution center in Marshfield on Friday, Nov. 30. Founded 68 years ago in Marshfield, Figi’s is a nationally known catalog retailer of cheeses, nuts, sweets and snacks, plus other specialty items. Each year, Figi’s mails over 49 millions catalog and sells 1.2 million pounds of cheese and 250,000 pounds of fruitcake.

Students met with Figi’s President Jim Krueger and Vice President for Human Resources Pam Rosterman who explained how Figi’s uses an integrated marketing strategy across its telephone, web and catalog operations. The UWSP students also got to see how the company uses technology to ensure efficiency in its high-volume packaging and shipping operation.

Of Figi’s 250 full-time employees, 22 are UW-Stevens Point alumni. The company also has 500 part-time employees and hires an additional 1,200 seasonal staff during its peak time.
