{"id":14115,"date":"2026-06-03T11:54:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T16:54:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.uwsp.edu\/cps\/?p=14115"},"modified":"2026-06-03T12:50:36","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T17:50:36","slug":"marshfield-clinic-honored-with-regents-business-award-for-work-with-uw-stevens-point","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uwsp.edu\/cps\/2026\/06\/03\/marshfield-clinic-honored-with-regents-business-award-for-work-with-uw-stevens-point\/","title":{"rendered":"Marshfield Clinic honored with Regents Business Award for work with UW-Stevens Point"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Marshfield Clinic, a long-time collaborator with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point\u2019s healthcare and wellness programs, has been presented with the UW Regents Business Partnership Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leadership from Marshfield Clinic, UW-Stevens Point and the Universities of Wisconsin attended a ceremony at the Laird Center for Medical Research at Marshfield Clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis award illustrates how critical our business partners are to the success of the Universities of Wisconsin,\u201d said Regent Jack Salzwedel \u201cMarshfield Clinic, a landmark central Wisconsin health organization, has a relationship with UW-Stevens Point that goes back decades. It has been crucial to the ongoing economic, and literal health, of central and northcentral Wisconsin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The partnership between the university and Marshfield Clinic supports clinical education and internship opportunities within UW-Stevens Point\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwsp.edu\/health\">School of Health Sciences and Wellness<\/a>, as well as scholarships, medical care for athletes and professional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of the greatest challenges we face is the need for more skilled healthcare professionals, and that\u2019s why partnerships like this are so important,\u201d said Dr. Brian Hoerneman, president and CEO of Marshfield Clinic. \u201cTogether, we are building a workforce pipeline that can improve the health and well-being of Wisconsin communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur relationship demonstrates a shared commitment to excellence,\u201d said UW-Stevens Point\u2019s Interim Chancellor Pratima Gandhi. \u201cPartnering with Marshfield Clinic has a vital role in building healthier communities and expanding access to care in rural areas through education and health career pathways.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collaboration includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The Healthcare Development Fund, allowing expansion of existing degree programs and the establishment of new healthcare majors including the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwsp.edu\/dpt\">Doctor of Physical Therapy<\/a>, medical laboratory science program, online health science and wellness clinician degree and nursing partnership with local technical colleges. An occupational therapy program is in development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marshfield Clinic hosts 70-80 UW-Stevens Point students per year in clinical education and internship opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Approximately $62,000\/year in scholarships are funded to help support students pursuing majors and future professions in healthcare<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Health Scholars Program provides clinical shadowing, research, community service and professional development opportunities for 16-20 students each year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>30 students per year received training and volunteer experience with the Marshfield Clinic Community Connections Team helping to connect patients with local community resources, specifically helping those in rural communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marshfield Clinic athletic training staff members provide dedicated support to UWSP athletes for practices, training and athletic events, as well as on campus office hours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An indoor hydroponic garden housed at UWSP at Marshfield supplies greens and vegetables for patients at Marshfield Clinic and the community, in a collaboration with Fork Farms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The UW Regents Business Partnership Award recognizes the reciprocal relationship between a university and a business.
