As a national leader in sustainability, faculty and students from the Educational Sustainability doctoral program<\/a>, Office of Sustainability<\/a> and other university sustainability programs are representing the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Conference & Expo in Pittsburgh Oct. 2-6, 2018. AASHE<\/a> is the leading organization that drives sustainability education into higher education. The organization has more than 900 members, of which UW-Stevens Point is a member, and members reach across 48 states, one U.S. territory, nine Canadian provinces and 20 countries and draws approximately 2,000 participants. With a theme of “Global Goals: Rising to the Challenge,” the 2018 AASHE Conference & Expo examines the critical role of higher education in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Students and faculty are promoting diverse departments, their programs and initiatives. Professor Joy O\u2019Neil<\/a>, director of the Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Sustainability, Sustainability Coordinator Dave Barbier<\/a> and students\u2013including doctorate students Branden Lewis, Kim Wahl and Jie (Jane) Li\u2013are networking, learning from others and representing their programs. In addition, an exhibit booth is showcasing the UW-Stevens Point College of Professional Studies<\/a>, and additional graduate programs, including master’s degrees in Sustainable and Resilient Food Systems<\/a> and Community and Organizational Leadership<\/a>.<\/p>\n

By bringing students and building relationships with others at AASHE and other conferences, UWSP shows our community of culture and care while promoting exceptional programs in education. In addition to AASHE, faculty and students and staff\u2013including Bo DeDeker, Emily Wahlquist, Cindy Solinski, Bethany Redbird and Liz Potter-Nelson\u2013are working together by attending, recruiting and promoting programs with exhibit booths at AASHE and other conferences such as Growing Sustainable Communities Conference<\/a> (Oct. 2-3 in Dubuque, Iowa), the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) Conference<\/a> (Oct. 9-13 in Spokane, Washington), and the Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education (WAEE) Conference<\/a> (Oct. 18-20 in Wisconsin Dells). These opportunities are a way to show how we can collaborate together as a community as we face global challenges and work towards a sustainable future<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
