The free mobile app, SAFEPOINT, has officially launched across all UW- Stevens Point campuses for all students and Pointers families. Developed in collaboration with University Police and the Office of the Dean of Students, with support from Housing and Residence Life and the UWSP Student Government Association, the goal of the app is to support campus safety and serve as a digital hub for support services and other campus resources.
While this app can serve as a central resource for information about events like Homecoming and Family Day, Move In, Commencement, etc., the main intention is to keep students safe and healthy. That is why features like access to mental health support, campus activities and student organizations, as well as connections to academic advising and tutoring assistance can all be found within the app.
The app also allows Pointers to contact emergency services directly within the app. In addition, users will discover features like:
- Virtual Walk Home- This feature, when enabled, shares your location with the University Police. If you are traveling alone or feel that you are in an unsafe situation, this feature will allow the University Police to track you.
- Friend Walk- Like “Virtual Walk Home”, this feature allows you to share your location with a set of trusted contacts. Those with your location can track you and contact emergency services if needed.
- Mobile Bluelight- If you have been on campus, you have probably seen the Bluelights that are scattered throughout and allow you to contact law enforcement. The Mobile Bluelight feature allows you to contact the police with your exact location, however, you do not have to be near a physical Bluelight!
The app also houses information like the Annual Security Report, current road conditions, the weather forecast, dining services, campus maps, and parking information. Essentially, it is a one stop shop for any questions Pointers or families may have!
SAFEPOINT serves as a great resource for ALL POINTERS- physically, mentally, and academically. It is free to download on the app store for all Android and IOS users.
