Hey Pointers! The UWSP housing application opens on October 15 at 9 a.m. Whether or not you have a roommate, you should apply for housing as soon as possible. That way, you can get an earlier room selection date and get a better chance at rooming in the dorm of your preference. Roommates can be added at any point throughout the year, even if you have already applied for housing.

It is totally understandable to not have a roommate at this time in the housing application process. Today, we are going to talk about some ways to find a roommate.

The first way we recommend finding a roommate is through the app ZeeMee. You fill out a profile with your interests, living habits, etc. and can meet the people in your class that are the most compatible. The app also has a chat feature, and you can reach out to school counselors or current students with any questions!

You can also meet your roommate at events on campus. If you attend a preview day or admitted students’ day, you should get to know a little bit about the people you are around. If you think someone would be a good roommate or even friend to have on campus, don’t hesitate to ask for their socials or contact information.

When you find your roommate, nothing is more important than clear communication. You need to be able to speak up to set boundaries and expectations, because your comfortability and sense of security are your priorities in your living situation. Make sure to talk to each other about a common understanding of cleanliness, having guests over, sleep schedules, etc.

Once you find a roommate and decide they are a good fit for you after talking about your expectations while living together, you can go into your housing application and select your roommate.

Good luck and have a great year, Pointers!
