As August comes to a close and the school year quickly approaches, UWSP is ready to welcome our incoming first-year students to campus through a week of fun festivities. Pointers Week, spanning from Thursday August 29th through Sunday September 8th, is a week full of social events that help students settle into their new home at UWSP. Pointers Week is packed with a variety of events including club and organization fairs, learning the ins and outs of residential living and navigating campus, exploring the colleges, ice cream socials, and more!
While there are countless activities to choose from, here are some of our can’t miss events for you to add to your calendar to help kickstart your time at UWSP!
- Thursday, August 29th: Floor Meetings + Dinner + Can I Kiss You? (from 3:30-8:15 p.m.)
- Run by your Resident Assistant (RA), floor meetings are a great way for you to learn about dorm life, meet your neighbors, learn to navigate the dining hall and more. You will receive more details upon moving in about exact timing and meeting locations.
- Friday, August 30th: Convocation, Class Photo, and Picnic! (starting at 10:30 a.m.)
- Mandatory for first year students, Convocation is a welcoming ceremony for the class of 2028 held in the Skyward Field House. Here you will hear from students about their experience at UWSP and their advice for navigating your time here. Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a class photo followed by a picnic outside of the DeBot Dining Center!
- Friday, August 30th: College Connections (starting at 1:45 p.m.)
- During College Connections, the different colleges at UWSP each host events for students to learn more about the programs the colleges have to offer. This is a fantastic way for students to meet faculty members and other students who are interested in similar fields of study. If you do not know what college you are most interested in, feel free to pop around and explore multiple!
- Saturday, August 31st: Labor of Love (starting at 1:30 p.m.)
- This event connects students to our Stevens Point Community. Students meet up with event coordinators at the Skyward Field House before venturing around campus and into the community to tackle a variety of volunteer projects. This is the 30th anniversary of the event!
- Sunday, September 1st: Kayaking and Canoeing in Schmeeckle Reserve (starting at 1: 30 p.m.)
- Schmeeckle Reserve is one of our favorite parts of UWSP. Thanks to Schmeeckle’s Outdoor Rentals, students will have free access to kayaks and canoes that they can use to paddle around Lake Joanis and see Schmeeckle from the water!
- Monday, September 2nd: Community Engagement Fair in the Skyward Field House (starting at 6:30)
- The Community Engagement Fair is a wonderful place for students to learn about all the different clubs and organizations that UWSP has to offer. With over 100 clubs and organizations in attendance, students have endless opportunities to connect with student orgs and clubs that align with their studies and passions, and more.
- Tuesday, September 3rd: Coffee Hour with the Chancellor at Homegrown Café in the Dreyfus University Center (starting at 10 a.m.)
- No better way to kick off your first day of school than with a free cup of coffee with Chancellor Gibson! Stop by the Homegrown Café between 10-11 for your free cup and to meet UWSP’s awesome Chancellor.
