“You’re listening to 89.9 FM, WWSP – Stevens Point,” is a phrase that I have the privilege of saying every week.
90FM is the student-run radio station at UWSP that plays alternative music. The station is operated by nine student employees and more than one hundred student and community volunteers. With a 60-mile broadcast radius, it is one of the leading college radio stations in the country.
There are many ways to get involved at 90FM!
DJ Shifts
90FM is the place to learn to DJ! DJs play some selected alternative music that changes every few weeks. The rest of what is played is music the DJs choose from CD stacks and a vinyl collection.
I love alternative music, and being a DJ helps me find new artists, songs and albums! Plus, it’s fun to speak to an audience and sit in a room where the walls are full of CDs.
Talk shows
Hosting a talk show is like hosting your own live podcast! If there are ideas that you want to share or topics you want to discuss on air, you can. Talk shows air from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Talk shows change each semester. Students can contact 90FM’s Talk Director for information on how to start a show.

More ways to get involved
- News Team: students read international, national, state and campus news on air. The News Team is where I got my start at 90FM and is a great way to gain on-air experience while keeping up with current events.
- Production Team: students create preproduced content and gain experience in audio engineering and editing.
- Sports: students can produce and broadcast UWSP sporting events.
- Music Team: students help organize and curate the station’s music collection.
Specialty Events
90FM hosts multiple events every year. Many of these events are fundraisers that help keep the station running! More on them:
- 90FM hosts the world’s largest trivia contest every April! For 54 hours straight, trivia questions are asked every eight minutes. Teams come from around the country to compete in the contest.
- Radiothon: an annual on-air auction fundraiser in December.
- College Radio Day: specialty programming that celebrates college radio!
