Hey Pointers!

Thinking about being a Resident Assistant (RA)? Here’s a little bit about my experience being a RA in Baldwin Hall!

I first had to go through the experience of filling out an application, being interviewed, and doing a creative presentation for the housing staff the semester before starting the job as an RA! So be sure to be on the lookout for that application once spring semester rolls around!

After I had gotten the job, I got to meet my fellow housing staff members and the residents on my floor. You are given the responsibility of planning exciting program events each month that encourage a more friendly, inclusive and welcoming community for the entire hall! Along with planning programs, I had the opportunity to craft and create different designs for my floors cork boards! It was really fun to be able to put my own unique flare into all of my events and creations!

Along with my RA responsibilities, I also worked as a desk receptionist and was able to interact with residents in my hall more that way and also be a great resource for any questions they might have while staying in the dorms!

Some of my other responsibilities as an RA included weekly staff meetings where I met with the other RAs on each floor and our hall director. These meetings were held to make sure we were keeping up with all our tasks and seeing if there were any other important updates regarding our residents. There were many opportunities to have fun with the other RAs and really grow as a team throughout the semester!

Overall, I improved upon so many skills of mine while being an RA, including my leadership, communication, organization and preparation skills! I highly recommend this job to anyone who is interested in doing it! I was able to find a community, friendships, and gain new memories along the way that will last a lifetime!
