The first few weeks of college are always an exciting time. It can also be a stressful time for some people. Moving into your new dorm. Finding your classes. Making new friends. The fast pace of the new school year can be overwhelming but there are ways to reduce that feeling.
Here are 5 tips for dealing with stress:
Take a break
- Do an activity that isn’t scrolling through TikTok and Instagram. Read, watch a movie, meditate, listen to music, do some deep breathing exercises. Even just a 20-minute break can do wonders for de-stressing.
Exercise
- Luckily for students, UWSP offers a free gym membership at our Allen Fitness Center. All you need is your tennis shoes and your student ID to enter.
Reach out to your advisor or professors.
- If you are stressed about your courses or your assignments, let your professors or advisor know that you are struggling. They are more than happy to help find a way to ease your stress.
Utilize the Tutoring Learning Center (TLC)
- The TLC offers tutoring services for all courses. The best part is, most tutors are students who have taken the courses, so they know the material you are learning to best serve you.
Check out the Counseling Center on campus
- If you feel like you are losing control of your stressors and need someone to talk to, make an appointment at the counseling center! The Counseling Center offers both in-person and telehealth appointments, along with a self-help platform called You@UWSP. For more information, click here.
