If you are someone who is seeking out accommodations or are in need of assistance in your classes, the Disability Resource Center is here to help. The Disability Resource Center, otherwise known as the DRC, is a resource on campus that provides accessibility, accommodation, and assistive technology services for students with disabilities. Students will work with a DRC coordinator to identify and implement an individualized accommodation plan that will help students acquire equal access to their education.
The DRC serves current and future students of UWSP who have documented disabilities and need to arrange accommodations. Some examples include:
- ADD/ADHD
- Autism
- Traumatic Brain Injuries
- Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Blind/Visually Impaired
- Learning disabilities (dyslexia, processing disorders, etc.)
- Psychological Health (anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar, OCD, etc.)
- Physical Conditions (Arthritis, Cerebral Palsy, etc)
- Temporary Conditions (concussions, broken limbs, surgery recovery)
To apply for accommodations through the DRC, follow these three steps.
- Establish a DRC Connect account.
- This will be where you officially submit your accommodation request
- Submit documentation.
- Appropriate disability-related documentation is required by the DRC to verify eligibility for accommodations. More information on documentation can be found here.
- Participate in a New Client Intake meeting.
- This meeting is a conversation about your accommodation requests and the impact of your condition(s). A DRC coordinator will explain the process of implementing your accommodations in your courses.
Some accommodations provided by the DRC include recorded lectures, copies of PowerPoints, Sign Language Interpreters, ability to leave class when needed, a variety of assistive technologies, proctored exams, and emotional support or service animals. Which qualifications you qualify for are determined on a case-by-case basis.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the DRC by email: drc@uwsp.edu or by phone call: 715-346-3365
