By: Jack Orlando

A teacher and director who found his passion while growing up in a diamond mine town.

A student organization that supports and advocates for students with disabilities.

A student whose love for live music inspired him to create a concert series.

If you like reading or writing stories, The Pointer tells these stories and more!

What is The Pointer?

The Pointer is UWSP’s campus newspaper. Stories are written by students, for students on topics relating to UWSP and the community.

Where can I find content?

The Pointer publishes content online and in print editions. Print editions are developed a few times per school year!

News and Feature Writing

The Pointer’s biggest focus is on news and feature writing! It is a place for students to learn about journalistic practices and the use of AP style.

Students can bring story ideas or come up with them at weekly editorial meetings. They work with the editorial staff to develop and publish stories.

Arts and entertainment

Writing stories is not the only way to contribute to The Pointer. There are more creative ways to be involved, too. Students can submit:

  • Photography
  • Poetry
  • Comics
  • Literature reviews
  • Film reviews

The Pointer also publishes an annual April fool’s edition called The Pointless. Students write fictional, fun stories to be published on April 1.

If you want to be creative and humorous, writing for The Pointless edition is a great way to do so. You can submit story ideas at any point during the school year!

Paid Positions

The Pointer offers paid positions every school year. They include:

  • News Reporters
  • Editors
  • Business Manager
  • Graphic Designer

Paid staff members are integral in the operation of The Pointer!

How do I find out more?

For more about how to get involved, to learn about paid positions and/or to pitch a story idea, email the Editor-in-Chief at pointnp@uwsp.edu or stop by CAC room 104, The Pointer’s newsroom!

Meetings for the fall 2024 semester are held Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
