Finding a Roommate and Making a Roommate Group

No Comments on Finding a Roommate and Making a Roommate Group

Finding the right roommate can be an exciting part of your college experience. While pre-selecting a roommate is strongly recommended at UWSP, it’s not required. In addition to meeting someone in person, whether locally or at an event held at UWSP, we have multiple resources available to help you connect with someone compatible.

Using ZeeMee

One popular option is the free application ZeeMee. Many students use this platform to find potential roommates and make friends before arriving on campus. You can also connect with current students and ask questions to get you ready for your life in college.

Searching in the Housing Portal

The UWSP Housing Portal has some functions that can help you find a roommate:

  • Search for Roommates by Name or UWSP ID: If you already have someone in mind, you can locate them directly.
  • Search for Roommates by Profile Answers: Match with someone based on their responses to profile questions.
  • Suggested Roommates: The system can suggest potential roommates based on compatibility.

Since new housing applications are completed daily, it’s a good idea to check back periodically for new matches.

When You Find a Roommate

When you have your roommate figured out, you will want to go back into the housing portal to create a roommate group. Both roommates must agree to the pairing. Detailed instructions are available in this resource: Traditional Hall Roommate Request.

Need Help Finding a Roommate?

On Tuesday March 25, 2025, we will be hosting a free virtual event titled “Finding a Roommate and Making Friends.” Check out this event (and more) as part of the LiveSP series.

If You Do Not Find a Roommate

Don’t worry if you don’t find a roommate before your room selection appointment. You still have a few options. During your housing selection appointment, you can:

  1. Choose a Completely Open Room: The other half of the room will be assigned to another student later.
  2. Select a Room with an Open Space: You can review the existing occupant’s profile to determine compatibility (this is strongly recommended).
  3. Do nothing: UWSP will use your “Roommate Matching Questions” to pair you with someone. To ensure the best match, be as complete and honest as possible when filling out the roommate matching questions.

At UWSP, we want you to have a positive and productive relationship with your roommate. Using these tools and being proactive in the process can help set the foundation for a great living experience!
