4 points that make UW-Stevens Point great

When I’m home from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, my family will ask about some of my favorite aspects of university life. They will ask:

  • What are some of the best parts of UW-Stevens Point?
  • What sets UW-Stevens Point apart from other schools?
  • What makes Stevens Point great?

Here are four things I tell them:

  1. The area: Stevens Point offers a variety of amazing locations and hot spots for outdoor activities perfect for students. These include hiking trails such as those at Schmeeckle Reserve and the Green Circle Trail, which stretches more than 20 miles around Stevens Point. There is also a park that travels with the Wisconsin River which with a blacktop trail, making it perfect for Rollerblading and biking! It also includes a skate park and a playground. There are abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation in Stevens Point and I highly recommend you take advantage of them.
  2. We have majors not every college has: At UW-Stevens Point, we have natural-resource majors! We are one of the few schools in the area to supply majors in natural resources. We even have a College of Natural Resources in the middle of campus! I think this is valuable because even if you aren’t a natural-resources major, you can enjoy the diverse groups of people who attend the school.
  3. Exciting sports: Over the past few years, UW-Stevens Point has been extremely successful in Division III athletics, making the Pointers even more fun to watch! I encourage you to go to a game or two from each sport! It’s a great way to meet people and make friends! I’m biased, but I recommend you attend baseball games. The atmosphere is great and the guys are fun to watch.
  4. The people: Students, faculty and staff are above and beyond anyone’s expectations. My friend Kelsey transferred from another school last semester and said, “Everyone here is so nice.” I think she is right. You can walk up to anyone, ask a question and almost everyone is enthusiastically willing to help. UW-Stevens Point’s atmosphere is much like a small town. You know a lot of the people and everyone is always friendly!
