You’re probably wondering: what’s the difference between fall and spring semester? The answer is… not too many changes. But there are a few key differences that are important to note. 

Spring Break  

  • During the fall, many students begin to get antsy about some sort of break from their academics. Unfortunately, with the timing of the fall and winter holidays, students don’t get a break until approximately week 12. However, in the spring semester, break comes much sooner than that. At the halfway point of the semester (week 8) is when UWSP officially releases for spring break. Students are given 10 days to relax and recharge for the last half of the semester. 

Graduation Date 

  • In Fall, commencement is typically held the weekend before final exam week. Again, this is due to the timing of the holidays. Fortunately, commencement is held after final exam week, giving students a chance to focus on their final projects before worrying about commencement. 

Transfer Students 

  • At the end of a semester is typically when students decide to transfer to a different campus. So don’t be afraid to reach out to someone who may seem a little lost or is new to campus. Like you when you first arrived to campus, transfer students are looking for some friendly faces that will help make their transition to a new campus easier. 

Weather 

  • In the fall, the days quickly become shorter and shorter which can have an impact on your mood, energy levels, and sleep schedule. Many people have a hard time adjusting to the cold and dark winter season. In the spring, campus starts to see the exact opposite! It may be cold for a while, but we have something to look forward to as the days get warmer. During the spring, there is a huge shift in the amount of activity going on around campus. Instead of staying cozy in their dorms, more students are walking around, hammocking, or studying outside. The longer days and warmer temperatures encourage students to be more productive and active, which in turn boosts their mood.
