On-Campus vs. Off Campus Jobs

No Comments on On-Campus vs. Off Campus Jobs

Finding work as a student can be intimidating for many reasons. It is hard to find a job that fits into your schedule, or has the flexibility needed for being a college student. There are two types of jobs that you should consider when job searching: on campus and off campus. I am going to break down the benefits of each, as well as how to apply for them!

On-Campus Jobs:

The quintessential college jobs are the ones that you don’t have to leave campus for. These jobs range from working at the front desk at the residential halls to working for dining or in an office. The best part of these jobs is that, as I said, you don’t have to leave campus to get to them, so there is no need to move your car from the parking lot to get there. Depending on the job, there is a wide variety of hours available for work, and they are likely to be flexible with your availability. Especially if you have a break between your classes, you could fit in work hours during the school day.

The Quest portal is where you will find updated job listings! All you have to do is fill out a profile for yourself with your student information, and then you can get to applying.

Off-Campus Jobs:

Sometimes it becomes necessary to look beyond the campus in order to find the best fit for you. Off- campus jobs provide a greater variety of options, which can be nice to switch up your day-to-day life. With these jobs, the sky is the limit. There are so many options for students ranging from retail work to being a barista or working at the front desk.

To apply for these jobs, you can use the Quest portal and look through off campus options. Sometimes it can be as easy as walking into the business and inquiring about their hiring. Otherwise, many jobs have moved to an online application process, so you can simply search for job applications and find a portal in the results! If you aren’t sure which job you want to apply for, websites such as Handshake, Glassdoor and Indeed all compile job opportunities that make it super simple to apply.

Applying for jobs can be scary, but it is also exciting! So, get out there and start seeing what kind of jobs are right for you.
