Goodbye Old DeBot, Hello New Dining Experience

Monique Mata-Bonilla shares what's in store for next school year (and where students can eat on campus!), as the DeBot Dining Center is renovated.
If you haven’t heard by now, UW-Stevens Point’s Dining and Summer Conferences (DSC) is renovating Upper and Lower DeBot dining areas during the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year. DeBot has not been renovated since 1968. Due to issues with HVAC and key infrastructure items, it’s time for an upgrade.

What does this mean?

DeBot will be closed for the summer of 2018, the whole 2018-19 academic year and the following summer of 2019, with a Grand Reopening fall 2019. But have no fear! Dining and Summer Conferences staff are working to provide ways for students to still get their fresh meals each day at other locations across campus.

The Dreyfus University Center Food Court will be the new dining hub with extended food offerings and hours until the DeBot renovation is complete. The DUC Food Court will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and have brunch and dinner options during the weekends beginning in fall 2018. Students will still have the opportunity to purchase breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as have grab-and-go options available all day. Students will also have the choice to sit and eat in the DUC Food Court, Basement Brewhaus and The Encore (near the DUC Theater) during serving hours.

Everyone’s favorite convenience store in Lower DeBot will still be an option for students as well! The basement of the Allen Center will be remodeled during the summer of 2018 specifically for the temporary arrangement of the convenience store. All your favorite grabandgo snacks will still be provided near the residence halls on campus!

So how does the renovation affect meal plans?

For the 2018-2019 academic year, Dining and Summer Conferences is temporarily providing students with one meal plan option for all students living in the traditional residential halls: the $1,472 Dawg Dollar Plan. This declining-balance plan can be used in all DSC locations across campus. This plan has no administrative fees and gives each student $1,472 of purchasing power for food! In addition, $200 Dawg Dollars will be available for roll-over into the spring semester of 2019. (Keep in mind: Dawg Dollars not spent by the end of the spring 2019 semester will be lost and won’t be reimbursed.)

Off-campus meal plan options will also still exist and include the option to choose one of four Dawg Dollar Plans. Students not living in traditional residence halls will have the option of a $50, $200, $300 or $1,472 Dawg Dollar Plan that can be purchased in the PointCard Office, located on the third floor of the DUC.

UWSP’s Student Government Association’s Green Fund is funding the purchase of Green-on-the-Go containers to be bought and distributed to students living in the traditional residential halls. The containers are durable for students who would like to take their food to go from any campus dining location. Students will also have the option to return their container to be washed by DSC before reusing again.

The last day meals will be offered to students at DeBot dining locations is Friday, May 18, 2018. After that, the renovation begins!
