UW-Stevens Point students in Health Science 105 Survey of Common Disease showcased their findings of the importance of becoming culturally aware of a patient’s needs at a poster presentation in the Dreyfus University Center Laird Room Wednesday, Nov. 23.
The students collaborated in groups and discovered how diverse backgrounds are related to major disease categories such as infectious disease, cancer, stroke, and heart disease.
“The purpose of this exercise is learning about exposure to inclusive excellence through cultural diversity and sensitivity awareness,” said Professor Jodi L. Olmsted, RDH, Ph.D. “As health care providers, you need to know about a patient’s health and cultural background to best treat them.”
Members of UWSP administration, faculty, community members and other students attended the presentation.
