Overcoming stress

Welcome back from spring break!!! I hope everyone got some much needed stress relief!

We live in a time when high stress situations have become the norm in our lives. Mixing the work life, family life, personal life, and personal goals together can be one huge mixture for stress. How we choose to handle that stress defines who we are to those around us.

Here are some rules I use to navigate my sea of stress:

  • Whenever it feels like you need a small amount of time to yourself, TAKE IT! Do something selfish for yourself, as long as you aren’t hurting anyone else.
  • Saying “NO!” is ok. Sometimes it seems like we live in a “Yes Society.” Where the word people want to hear all the time is “Yes” and they refuse to take “NO!” for an answer.
  • Say “Yes” to projects that you want to do, not what you have to do. If you are juggling being a parent, being a student, and working a full time job, the downtime you have is precious. I would rather be spending that small amount of time enjoying myself and doing something I want to do.
  • One thing I do once a month: find something that is considered a want and buy it. The catch: it must be on sale! For me, It’s a double win: got something I’ve wanted for a while and I saved some money on it!
