Julia King

Julia King, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, was appointed as the associate dean and department head of the UW-Stevens Point School of Communicative Disorders, announced College of Professional Studies Dean Marty Loy.

As associate dean and department chair, King will lead the faculty, staff and students in the School of Communicative Disorders (ComD) in their mission as a premier provider of academic training programs in Wisconsin for future speech-language pathologists and audiologists and as a well-recognized provider of clinical services for the local and surrounding communities. She will also collaborate with community partners to continue and expand opportunities for the students in the academic programs as well as the clients who seek services at the Center for Communicative Disorders.  She describes her new role as a privilege to provide leadership and support to faculty, staff and students as they make valuable contributions to the university, community and beyond.

King, who replaces Gary Cumley who retired in May, came to UW-Stevens Point in 2004 after serving as a faculty member at UW Oshkosh and the University of Nevada-Reno. Her area of expertise is providing communication support, but has specialized in supporting people with aphasia. She has published, presented at national conferences, provided clinical services on campus, and taught courses at UW-Stevens Point. She has degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Virginia, and UW-Madison.
