Balancing more than one job as a full-time student can be challenging, but very rewarding. I am employed on campus in the Health Enhancement Center (HEC) athletic laundry room, and also off campus at SentryWorld as a volleyball official.
Working as a student, I believe, provides much more than money. I learn time management and multitasking skills, it prepares me for the real world, and I am able to build strong connections and relationships outside and inside the university.
I really enjoy my jobs and they are not something I dread doing. They give me a sense of productivity and definitely keep me busy.
Working as a student is important for me in order to pay for tuition and other student costs, but I never knew the additional positives that I would gain from working outside of going to class.
One of the most important skills I have learned from my experience, is that having a job allows me to manage my time a lot better. Since I do not have a lot of free time, I am required to get homework and studying done before I go to work.
Working part time while attending school has been more beneficial to me than not, and having a part time job is definitely something I would recommend. Find a part-time job or volunteer opportunities through the UW-Stevens Point Student Involvement and Employment Office (SIEO).
