HPW Student Internship Experience – David Hebert 15′
My internship at Full Circle Fitness & Massage was a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. Due to it being a very small business I got to experience a wide variety of duties. The main service provided at Full Circle is personal training and so I spent a lot of time observing, assisting, and eventually conducting personal training sessions with actual clients. I got to design various promotional flyers and social media posts as well as putting together several informational fact sheets on topics such as yoga and osteoporosis. The online research skills I acquired from paper writing and projects at school greatly helped me with that. My boss is also the high school cross country coach and so I got to put my running abilities to use by being in charge of the summer training sessions for the high school cross
country athletes every week. Putting my running knowledge to further use, we were asked to help plan, organize and execute a 5k charity run in town here. The majority of that work was given to me and though in the end we chose to not have the event it was an invaluable
experience. I was also given the project of contracting with a local bakery to put together some “client appreciation” baskets for all of Full Circle’s clients. Something I experienced here at Full Circle that I probably wouldn’t have somewhere else is how to run a business. My boss is also the founder and owner and so I was able to learn a lot from him about what it takes to start a business like this and keep it running as well as a lot of the day to day operation. I was actively included in business discussions and even some decisions. The idea of owning my own business someday is very appealing and so I am very glad I have this experience.
