Overall Goal of Internship

At the completion of this internship, the intern will have developed an excellent understanding and working knowledge of how Security Health Plan provides a variety of health services. This will include various things like conducting telephonic health coaching, participating in the Security Health Plan Wellness Committee and create promotions relating to Life Focus wellness programs.  The intern will gain experience in behavior change facilitation, promotion and marketing, and organizational experiences approved by Judy LeMaster. The intern agrees to follow all employee guidelines and duties determined by Security Health Plan. The intern will obtain experience in the areas outlined by the following specific goals and objectives:

Objectives

  1. Behavior Change:
    1. Conduct telephonic health coaching sessions with a minimum of 4 hours a week for  members and conduct follow-ups as identified by Health Risk Assessments and utilization reports
    2. Develop wellness programs and supplemental materials
    3. Conduct wellness programs and presentations – small and large groups
  2. Promotion and Marketing:
    1. Assist in the development of promotional plans for wellness programming or awareness campaigns
    2. Plan and implement employer HRA and biometrics events
    3. Create communication and promotions related to Life Focus wellness programs
  3. Organizational:
    1. Review member utilization of tobacco cessation medications and make recommendations to improve the effectiveness of medication usage
    2. Review and enter HRA and wellness program data
    3. Evaluate the effectiveness of wellness program initiatives
    4. Review worksite assessment data to provide recommendations and create an action plan for employer group wellness initiatives
    5. Learn how to use member and organization’s software applications to facilitate documentation of member interventions and employer aggregate data collection
    6. Develop awareness of how the Life Focus Customized Wellness Program integrates within the organizational structure of Security Health Plan
    7. Learn the diversified activities that occur daily in the Security Health Plan business
    8. Review National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Wellness and Health Promotion standards
    9. Participate in the Security Health Plan Wellness Committee and other committees as deemed appropriate
    10. Collaborate with employers to provide easy access to wellness programs and initiatives; learn the process of administrative engagement within an employer site
