Overall Goal of Internship

The intern will gain knowledge and experience working in a medical fitness environment. The intern will gain experience in the areas of behavior change facilitation, promotion and marketing of a variety of health and wellness programs.  The intern agrees to follow all employee rules and facility guidelines including those determined by the internship supervisor. The intern will obtain experience in the areas outlined by the specific objectives and agreed upon by the internship supervisor.

Objectives

  1. Behavior Change:
    1. Master the intake and evaluation procedures for new members and patients wanting to participate in the various exercise programs at the Dayani Center.
      1. Act as support for regular staff in any of the components of the Dayani Center as need dictates.
      2. Perform fitness evaluations for prospective clients.
      3. Double staff the Dayani Center floor.
      4. Assist with an exercise classes.
      5. Conduct and assist with lab testing.
      6. Provide participants education on exercise, health, and recreation.
  2. Promotion and Marketing:
    1. Assist marketing director with wellness and health programs.
    2. Develop promotion material including brochures, ads, posters, check stub stuffers for programs implemented at the center.
  3. Organizational Experiences:
    1. Shadow and assist intern director through day to day duties.
    2. Shadow and assist personal trainers through day to day duties.
    3. Take part with any ongoing research projects or contract work.
    4. Learn the overall structure of the Dayani Center.
    5. Become an integral part of any specific programming goals unique to the semester interning.
  4. Graduate School Preparation:
    1. Gain vital knowledge that will assist in graduate studies within Health and Exercise Science/Exercise Physiology.
      1. Gain experience prepping, interpreting and analyzing EKG readings.
      2. Work within cardiac and pulmonary rehab.
      3. Assist with the evaluations within sport performance testing.

Hours

Approximately 30-40 hours/week. 400 maximum hours.
