Area high school students got a behind-the-scenes look at potential future jobs during the UW-Stevens Point Health Careers Camp, sponsored by Marshfield Clinic Health System, June 11-14, 2019. The 17 students are completing exploration rotations at medical facilities including Marshfield Medical Center, Medical College of Wisconsin and Bridge Community Health Clinic in Wausau, as well as exploring academic majors on campus. The camp is part of the partnership between tUW-Stevens Point and Marshfield Clinic Health System that aims to support, educate and train aspiring health care professionals in Central Wisconsin.
Wednesday’s schedule included Marshfield Clinic Health System Marshfield Medical Center:
  • Education Simulation Lab
  • Med Flight Emergency Response
  • School of Radiography
  • Morgue Tour
  • Blood Banking
On Thursday, the students traveled to Wausau for more exploration of career options, including:
  • Medical College of Wisconsin-Central Wisconsin
    • Suturing Clinic
    • Demystifying Medical School Discussion
  • Bridge Community Health Clinic
    • Community Clinic Facilities Tour
    • Patient Population Served
    • Dental Facilities
    • Mental Health Practitioners

The final day of the camp is spent at UW-Stevens Point learning more about the health majors offered on campus, including:

  • Dietetics
  • Audiology and Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Clinical Laboratory Science
  • Pre-Professional Programs: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Athletic Training
  • Cadaver Lab
  • Health Coaching
