A senior interior architecture student at UW-Stevens Point earned a state award for her design of a senior living facility.

Senior Sydney Rall earned gold in the commercial design category from the Wisconsin Chapter of American Society of Interior Designers Design Excellence Awards for her design of “Whispering Hills.” The project was from her senior studio course IA 418 – Advanced Interior Architecture II from fall 2019. The design assignment was to create a multi-use, multi-space non-institutional facility of nearly 23,000 sq.ft. for elderly with Alzheimer’s Disease in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Each project was reviewed individually based on how the presented design solution meets the challenges described in the project statement and is judged on the following criteria:

  • appropriateness of design solution
  • functional use of space
  • innovative and creative use of space
  • scale and proportion
  • color composition
  • design elements

The Wisconsin Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is the largest and the most prominent professional interior design organization in the state. The Design Excellence Awards bestow honors on interior design professionals and members of ASID WI for exceptional interior design in 12 Residential categories and 19 Contract categories. Entries are juried by a hand-selected panel of experienced jurors. The judging is completely anonymous.
