UWSP students, alumni and corporate partners gather at a summer social.

The School of Business and Economics (SBE) at UW-Stevens Point offers a Corporate Partners program to local businesses and organizations. Through the program, an organization will be invited to connect with SBE students throughout the academic year. They will be provided a menu of interactive events and one-on-one experiences meant to educate students about their industries and promote their current internship and career opportunities.

When asked about a favorite Corporate Partners activity, Scott Larson from the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry shared “Lunch with a Leader! It allows for interaction with students to promote our area’s opportunities.”

Through a business or organization’s network they help create a vibrant workforce for the region by providing professional-development opportunities and enriching students’ learning
beyond the classroom. Students approaching graduation are well prepared and excited to begin their professional careers, while continuing students are eager for insight and guidance.

“Skyward currently has 275 UWSP alumni employed, of which 132 started with us as interns. We are grateful for the relationship we have with the UWSP School of Business and Economics,” said Karen Glinski from Skyward.

By connecting with School of Business and Economics students, a business can promote their mission along with their full-time and internship needs, all while helping students make valuable industry connections during their academic careers. Partners engage with students by participating in a variety of activities:

  • Speed-mentoring receptions
  • Panel discussions on specific industries and
  • career paths
  • Keynote speakers
  • Office and plant tours

Jessica Schroeter from Northwestern Mutual explained, “SBE has presented opportunities for us to get more involved with the students on campus along with allowing us to build relationships with other faculty. We have worked together on ways we can help be a resource on campus with the different opportunities we provide! Overall, it has been a great partnership so far and we are excited to continue building new relationships and ways we can be a resource for the students!”

The Corporate Partners program includes a diverse array of industries and sectors from manufacturing to insurance to logistics. “We want students to experience the vast opportunities that exist throughout the region to put their talents to work, serving the interests of our students as well as our partners,” said Kevin Neuman, head of SBE. “We strive to integrate our students with our network of partners to give them a strong start to their professional journey.”
