A team of two sophomores from the Sentry School of Business and Economics took first place and won a $2,000 cash prize in the 3rd Annual Wisconsin RMA (Risk Management Association) Commercial Lending Case Competition Friday, April 12 at the Wisconsin Bankers Association in Madison. UW-Stevens Point students Brooke Peterson ’26 and Mike Brierton ’26 beat out six other teams from UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Eau Claire and UW-Whitewater. [View Photos]

The competition included analyzing a case study, developing a loan proposal followed by giving oral presentations to two panels of judges. The first panel acted as a bank’s loan review committee; the second panel acted as the borrowers. The students were judged based on knowledge of the case study, financial analysis of the information provided, and overall credit analysis.

UWSP Assistant Professor of Accounting Bo DeDeker served as the faculty adviser, and they were matched with mentors from First State Bank during the competition.

The students also networked with Wisconsin bankers, learned from prior case competition winners, and had the chance to sit in with banking HR professionals who helped them with their resumes, LinkedIn profiles and interview questions.
