How does a feeding tube work? Did dinosaurs really have feathers? What’s the dirtiest place in my school? These were just a few of the 112 projects on display at the 23rd Annual “Giants in Science” Science Fair on Thursday, March 13, hosted by Riverside Elementary School of the D.C. Everest School District.
While kindergarten-5th grade students tackled these wonders of science, UW-Stevens Point School of Education students asked their own questions as volunteer judges at the event. This was the 21st year students in Prof. Perry Cook’s EDUC 325 – Techniques in Elementary School: Science course assisted at the fair.
In return, the college students participated in mock interviews with D.C. Everest Area School District leadership and gained feedback designed to help the students hone their interview and presentation skills. The district also held a question-and-answer panel with the principal, teachers and district personnel to answer questions from UWSP students about applying for upcoming teaching positions or about interviewing and the interview process. Special thanks two UWSP alumni, D.C. Everest Superintendent Casey Nye ’99 and fifth-grade teacher Pat Hughes ’00, who continue the strong Pointer tradition of teaching.
