UW-Stevens Point senior Marzia Azimi has a passion for creating positive change and a drive that makes her stand out as a campus leader and student entrepreneur. Selected from a pool of 137 applicants at UWSP, Azimi was named one of 13 recipients of the $3,000 Tommy G. Thompson Leadership Scholarship, an annual award from the Tommy G. Thompson Center on Public Leadership presented to one student at each of the Universities of Wisconsin who demonstrates leadership, determination and a commitment to bettering Wisconsin.

As a double major in finance and business administration with a certificate in international business, Azimi has built a reputation for initiative, resilience and a deep commitment to her community.

“My resume may list titles and experiences, but it cannot capture the moments that shaped my understanding of leadership,” said Azimi. “These moments that taught me leadership grows from showing up when it feels impossible, adapting, staying present and bringing people together in unexpectedly healing ways.”

Azimi credits the Sentry School of Business and Economics with helping her develop confidence in her leadership approach.

“Through classes, Smiley Professional Events, internships and involvement in the community and on campus, I have learned that leadership is about courage, service and taking initiative.”

Azimi’s story reflects the spirit of the scholarship and the enduring belief that leadership is about stepping up, serving others and bringing people together.

“Leadership is about listening until others feel seen, turning fear into courage and practicing the kind of servant leadership I hope to embody.”
