The ROTC program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point commissioned seven new second lieutenants into the United States Army on Friday, May 19, 2017. [Photo Gallery]

The seven seniors will begin their service following their May 2016 graduation:

  • Corey Boville: Tennessee Army National Guard
  • Ryan Dombeck: Active Duty Army with a duty station in Vicenza, Italy
  • Conner Intress: Wisconsin Army National Guard
  • Rilee Newell: Wisconsin Army National Guard
  • Juan Patino-Tamayo: Active Duty – Engineer Corps
  • Jacob Scheffler: Wisconsin Army National Guard
  • Wesley Titus: Wisconsin Army National Guard

1SG (Retired) Brian Dombeck, father of Ryan Dombeck, served as the guest speaker at the event. A native of Reedsburg, Wis., Dombeck enlisted in the Army and reported to Basic Training at Ft. Benning, Ga. on 8 August 1984. 1SG Dombeck was trained as a Heavy Anti-Armor Weapons Crewman. 1SG Dombeck’s assignments include the 187th Infantry (Airborne) and 508th Infantry (Airborne) at Ft. Kobbe, Panama, the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C., the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky., the 507th Infantry (Airborne) at the US Army Airborne and Pathfinder Schools at Ft. Benning, Ga., a Peacekeeping mission in Sanai, Egypt, a recruiting position in Aurora, Illinois, and the Senior Military Science Instructor at Indiana University.

1SG Dombeck was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), the Army Commendation Medal (6th award), the Army Achievement Medal (8th award), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), the Non-commissioned Officer Education System ribbon with numeral 3, the Multinational Forces and Observers Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (6th award), the Army Service ribbon, the Overseas Service ribbon, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Gold Recruiter Badge with two Sapphire Stars, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Pana-Jungla Badge, and the Ranger tab.

Since retiring from the Army in 2004, 1SG Dombeck has worked in manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution serving in various leadership and management positions. He and his wife, Jodi, reside in Stevens Point.
