Gifts from Thomas F. Davis estate created the Carol Krohn College Scholarship, which will support one or more $2,500 scholarships for Royall graduates. The award is renewable for up to three years with continued need and academic progress. Three awards are available for students enrolling for the fall of 2024.
Eligible students must be Royall High School seniors accepted to UW-Stevens Point. Financial need is preferred but not required. Students should be passionate about continuing their education and have a record of school and community involvement. The scholarship is managed by the UW-Stevens Point School of Education and is open to any area of study.
“These scholarships will help fill the gaps of the financial burden that might otherwise limit the further education of our students,” said Scott Uppena, Royall High School and Middle School principal. “This donation ensures that Carol’s legacy lives on through the lives of Royall students. I’m truly excited about the future partnership with UW-Stevens Point.”
“The Carol Krohn endowment represents a dedication to supporting college-bound students by extending financial assistance to accomplished graduates of Royall High School,” said Lynda Fernholz, assistant dean and head of the School of Education. “This gift will help students reduce their education debt, so their focus remains on career readiness.”
Royal High School will also be establishing an Educators Rising club with the help of our Harju Center for Equity in Education to continue the pipeline of teachers between the schools in honor of Carol.
Krohn was Davis’ fiancée and a 1971 graduate of UW-Stevens Point. She was teaching English and drama at her alma mater, Royall High School, when she was killed by a drunk driver in 1972 at age 23. Davis died April 18, 2022, 50 years to the day of Krohn’s death.
